Tony Lara, a ship captain on the Discovery Channel's hit show, Deadliest Catch, died from a heart attack, preliminary autopsy results revealed on Tuesday, Aug. 11.
Lara, who manned the crabbing boat Cornelia Marie on the reality show, died this past weekend in his sleep at his Sturgis, South Dakota, home. He was 50.
Meade County Sheriff Ron Merwin told Fox News on Tuesday that the autopsy was completed on Monday, but authorities are still awaiting the toxicology report. He added that there was no reason to believe that drugs were involved in Lara's death.
Merwin also told TMZ that the autopsy revealed scar tissue on Lara's heart, which is a sign of a heart attack. The reality star and longtime captain of Cornelia Marie did not suffer when he passed away, according to Merwin.
