Not dead yet! Terry Gilliam is alive and well, according to Terry Gilliam. The American-born British director and former member of Monty Python laughed off an inaccurate Variety story that reported he was dead on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
"I APOLOGIZE FOR BEING DEAD especially to those who have already bought tickets to the upcoming talks, but, Variety has announced my demise," Gilliam, 74, captioned a black-and-white Facebook photo. "Don't believe their retraction and apology!"
In the pic, Gilliam's head is Photoshopped to a corpse's body at a funeral. A woman in attendance holds up a sign, which reads: "He was only 30! Bad reviews from Variety aged him!"

Variety's pre-written obituary for the filmmaker was accidentally published on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Fans of Gilliam's Monty Python went crazy on social media, either upset about the news or learning afterward that it was fake. Variety quickly took down the post after the mistake.
"CORRECTION: Variety incorrectly published an article stating that director Terry Gilliam passed away," the site's official account tweeted Tuesday. "We're deeply sorry for the mistake."
