All aboard the Hogwarts Express! There could possibly be more Harry Potter movies in the works — at least if director Chris Columbus has anything to say about it.

The filmmaker, who helmed 2001’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and 2002’s Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, revealed in a new interview that he is interested in revisiting Harry Potter and his magical world on the big screen.

Columbus, 56, caught up with SiriusXM’s Entertainment Weekly Radio on Monday, July 20, and took a break from promoting his upcoming movie Pixels to talk a little Potter.

“I would love to go back and do another one,” he said of the Harry Potter movies. “Not Fantastic Beasts as much, which I think is going to be amazing, but I wouldlove to do another movie with those three characters — Harry, Hermione, and Ron.”

Columbus is not involved in the upcoming J.K. Rowling project Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which is set in Potter’s world of witches and wizards but does not feature the three Gryffindor pals. While the final Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, ended 19 years in the future, Fantastic Beasts is set in the years before Harry enters the picture.

“I’m just fascinated about what happened to them after the end of the last movie, because then they cut to [19] years ahead,” Columbus continued. “There’s [19] years there of great Harry Potter stories.”

As to whether he’s petitioned Rowling, 49, for said stories as she continues to expand her universe, Columbus added, “I don’t have the courage to actually mention that to her because I have such respect for her. She should do what she wants to do, but I really would love to know what’s in her head about those missing years.”
