Actor Marcus Scribner has played Junior Johnson on Black-ish and Grown-ish for nearly a decade, but it still takes him a minute to get into character.

“I’m half-asleep, but I know my amazing cast and crew will wake me up as soon as we hit the set,” the How to Blow Up a Pipeline star, 23, exclusively reveals in the latest issue of Us Weekly of his early morning call time.

Scribner rose to fame playing Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Rosseldest TV son on Black-ish. After the ABC sitcom wrapped in 2022, the California native joined onscreen sibling Yara Shahidi (Zoey Johnson) on her Freeform spinoff, Grown-ish. Season 5 of the teen comedy saw Scribner’s Junior kick off his freshman year at California University — the same school that Zoey had graduated from the season prior.

News broke in March that Grown-ish had been renewed for a sixth and final season, which returns to Freeform on June 28.

“It’s been almost 10 years of playing Junior, and it’s crazy to see it finally come to an end,” Scribner tells Us. “You won’t be disappointed!”

While the F**k-It List star is now an adult, he spent his formative years as a child actor on Black-ish.

“I mean, I had been told ‘no’ so often on auditions before that and I tried to not let that affect me. But as a little kid, it’s pretty difficult, especially when you’re trying your hardest at something,” Scribner confessed to the Chicago Tribune in February about pursuing an onscreen career. “When people ask me how to get into acting, I wouldn’t say background work is a good stepping-stone to actually get into acting. But I think it teaches you a lot of valuable lessons about what it’s like to be on set because you get to just observe everything that’s happening.”

He added at the time: “Being a background actor is difficult, I salute every background actor out there. People are so mean to you, and I was a kid and I felt like people were mean to me. I was like, how are you going to be mean to a child? It just goes to show you that the world is not sunshine and rainbows.”
