The countdown is on! With Thanksgiving just hours away, Americans are scrambling for last-minute ideas as they prepare to cook turkey, stuffing and more festive foods for their loved ones. Luckily, we have Chrissy Teigen, who shared dozens of helpful tips for surviving the holiday during a live Q&A session via Twitter Tuesday, November 22.

The 30-year-old Cravings cookbook author (and self-proclaimed Stove Top–stuffing aficionado) held a "Thanksgiving hotline" late Tuesday night to answer her fans' burning questions about cooking a delicious Turkey Day meal. Here, Us Weekly rounds up Teigen's five most valuable pointers for a successful holiday.

1. Don't Overdo the Side Dishes

"This year I'm making 12 sides," Teigen explained to her followers. "I tend to make a lot because I, personally, like to sample everything on a menu. But honestly, I would say to not stress yourself out. Just do your classic potatoes, stuffing, green beans, corn pudding and you're good to go. [And] turkey, of course!"

2. Potatoes! Potatoes! Potatoes!

The model, who is mom of 7-month-old daughter Luna with husband John Legend, stressed her love for potato-based dishes. "I do scalloped potatoes, my mom's recipe, which is online if you want to Google it. It's called Pepper's Scalloped Potatoes," she explained. "They're amazing! It has ham, bacon and a cream sauce. No cheese. A lot of scalloped potatoes have cheese but these ones I love without it, which means a lot. And then I do a garlic mashed potato as well, because I just want to mix gravy all up inside it. It's so fantastic."

3. Don't Cook Stuffing Inside the Turkey

"While I loves me a photo of stuffing just oozing out of a turkey's ass, I heard that it's kind of dangerous," Teigen said. "I heard it gathers bacteria or something 'cause some of [the turkey] can be uncooked in the middle, so I don't do it. But I do like the photos! But yeah, I think you might get sick."

4. Brine the Turkey for Extra Flavor

"We do brine our turkey. This year we're doing Alton Brown's honey-brined turkey," the Lip Sync Battle cohost explained. "John's favorite for the past few years — he loves it — is actually Todd English's. It has star anise, brown sugar, a ton of salt, obviously. It's fantastic, it's really great. But we're going to change it up this year, and hopefully it'll be good!" She later revealed that turkey is her least favorite part of a Thanksgiving meal, comparing it to "an OK chicken."

5. Homemade Cranberry Sauce Isn't Worth It

"I've done homemade cranberry sauce plenty of times. No one ever touches it," Teigen explained. "It makes me feel good to know that I made it, but honestly there's something I love about seeing that thing plop out of a can and have those little ridges on it. I'm into it. I say go jelly. I say stay canned, keep it traditional, go jellied."
